Genesis 4-5

Feb 15, 2026    Fred Kenney Jr.

In Genesis 4 and 5, humanity’s early sin and God’s redemptive plan are evident. Cain and Abel's story shows we can't approach God on our own terms; Abel's faithful sacrifice foreshadows Christ, while Cain's offering ignores sin's cost. This raises a question: Are we coming to God through Christ or trying our own way? Cain's murder of Abel introduces the first death and lie, yet God shows mercy by protecting Cain. Genesis 5's genealogy conveys that humanity, doomed to death, finds rest in the blessed God who comes down, bringing comfort through His death. The gospel has been part of creation from the start, passed down through generations of those who walk with God.
